The Three (3) House Bill That May Change Technology In Philippines

1. House Bill No. 1011 – Promoting the development and use of free and open source software in the Philippines (FOSS).

The freedom to run, copy, distribute, study and change the software is the essential part of this House Bill, but the fact that Philippines has a small amount of budget to Information and technology are only one of the most reason why our government must switch to free or open source software. Despite of higher cost of proprietary software it is the most prone to virus and security vulnerability not like a free software GNU/Linux that been used most in the top super computer in the world.

2. House Bill No. 195 – Accelerate the development of Information Technology Startup by Providing IT Venture and Funds. “IT Venture Capital Fund”.

We have a lot of talent and high skilled technology expert but the problem is they are now working with some biggest IT company, that’s belong at least to top fortune 500. We also have a small penetration of Startup Company and despite that most of them are bootstrapping they are taking us lead and hopefully snatch a success spot.

With this house bill I believe more Filipino will going to be engage and will be encourage in building and starting a startup.

3. House Bill No. 1230 – The Creation of Department of Information Technology and Communication.
Information Technology is absolute need and part of our daily life that’s why we should carefully watch over it how it’s change and apply to us in daily basis, we need this department not only to take care about our technology but at least to guard our freedom in software and hopefully this department will hold the Importance of House Bill No. 1011 and not just become an arena of proprietary software.

Leaving Developer Community Facebook Garage

For how many times I hear, read and proof the importance of having a focus into one project, so today I finally made my decision to at least lessen some activity on my part and have full time on my own personal project.

So Starting today I will leaving (but not on the jet plane) the developer community facebookgarage.ph to JP Loh a developer enthusiast that will now be handling the coordination and will take lead the Facebook Developer Garage in Philippines , Welcome him and support our new Garage Host.

I will now take my time and focus on my personal project.

Hosting the facebook garage in Philippines brings me a wonderful and unique opportunity to meet and take lead in some matters our great developer in the country.

Once again change do happen, there’s a wide range of opportunity that in the end it’s how are we going take this new opportunity.

3rd Philippine Tech Startup

The Philippine Tech Startup was take place at Ubertor hacker space on Jan 15, 2011 with the estimate of 50 plus developer and technopreneurs to meetup, support and inspire each and everyone with their expertise and latest project startup that their building here in Philippines.

Abolish Internet Broadband Data Volume Cap (Limitation)

The broadband cap (limitation) was first announced in December by National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) during a conference of electrical engineers in Pasay City, the proposed circular has undergone several revisions since being drafted in September 2010 “as it continues to receive inputs from the public and positive to public telecommunications entities (PTEs).”

National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), government agency of the Philippines invites all stakeholders including internet service subscribers for public consultation on the draft memorandum on Broadband Data Volume Cap (Limitation). The event was planned to hold on NTC Executive Conference Rm., 3rd Floor, NTC Building, and Diliman, QC at 2:00 pm on Jan 11, 2011.

Why Abolish Internet Broadband Data Volume Cap (Limitation)

It will only result to High Internet Cost but still intermittent connection and poor service, while most of broadband company are already give their blessing to Internet Limitation and junk the minimum speed, it doesn’t mean that user may not try avail high volume of data but doesn’t guarantee internet speed and will only result to discriminate ordinary user and disappointed to high paying subscriber.

For some other reason I know that we are already been on constraint in Internet Broadband Data Volume and its already existing, Connection Intermittent and Poor Service is enough to say that they controlling us in accessing and gaining information online.

The NTC said “the particular clause was suggested by PTEs to prevent network abuse by unscrupulous subscribers who violate intellectual property laws, particularly on copyright, by downloading movies and software, similar to abusive subscribers of unlimited call/text promotions which were primarily designed for person-to-person use but used for voluminous commercial undertakings.”

There a legal way to prevent those subscribers who violate intellectual property laws online they can easily do it if they really want it but limiting its data for download and publish doesn’t guarantee anything.

Downloading copy of movies and software is very few because it’s 100% more accessible and cheaper to access and buy it on street than to suffer on 1 week on downloading it online.

It’s also clear that it will only try to stop the market penetration of cloud computing and will give advance to proprietary software.

The only thing that I see and guarantee in Internet Broadband Data Volume Cap (Limitation) is discrimination to user and greed to ISP.

Google D3vf3st 2010 At Manila Philippines

July 6, 2010 I was able to attend the Google Devfest (D3vf3st) at TechnoHub Commonwealth Avenue UP Campus, Quezon City although I’m not feeling well that day it’s still nice to attend at cool and relaxing place while listening to latest product and tools of a giant search engine Google.

The information very exhausted for a one whole day event, there is a lot and exciting tools to know directly from Google and it’s nice to know that they pushing HTML5, with their latest browser chrome.

But as I expected they don’t answer my question.

Is Google going to build or having a plan to create their owned social networking?

The answer is pretty straight forward.

Sorry! We can’t comment on that!

I know it’s still a rumor about Google Me and according to this post of mashable.com

The big rumor that’s recently been making the rounds is Google Me, Google’s upcoming social network and a full-fledged competitor to Facebook.

While there’s virtually nothing official on the record for this project, Kevin Rose recently said it exists, and now more and more people close to either Google() or Facebook have been confirming that Google indeed has something along these lines in the works.

I’m still exhausted on last week facebook developer garage in Philippines, it’s a very short preparation to make this event successful and I’m very happy that everything works fine.

We appreciate both positive and negative feedback from our student , guest and developers and we would like you to know that we value your input and promise to do our only best in next facebook developer garage.
